Pakistan and China had signed three agreements on Wednesday May 18, 2011 on banking, technical and economic cooperation and extension in gold and copper extraction from Saindak mines at Balochistan. China has also offered grant of 70 million RMB for reconstruction of flood affected areas and a loan $ 100 million soft term loan to Pakistan. Both Pakistani and Chinese Prime Ministers were present at the agreement signing ceremony at the Great Hall of People.
The agreement includes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Chinese banking regulatory authority and State Bank of Pakistan. Two agreements on cooperation in economic and technical support to Pakistan and also an agreement for extension in extraction projects till 2017 at Saindak were also signed.
The Prime Minister Gilani and his Chinese counterpart Premier Wen Jibao also exchanged their views about bilateral and major international and regional issues. The Chinese Premier expressed his good feelings and addressed that Mr. Gilani’s visit to China will boost the friendship cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese Minister also appreciated the role played by Pakistan in war against terrorism.
